.com as an mediawiki ASP (1)

In light of our coming new hosting, would wikieducator.com provide media wiki hosting services like an ASP where a corporation could develop wiki based course in a secure (and private) space? Or would this go against our hosting arrangements with wikieducator.org...

I am increasingly having opportunities to provide consulting services toward Learning 2.0. I see wikis a key to this emerging approach to learning. But what I see happening is that companies / corporations would like to keep thier learning activities / content creation proprietary, therefore not being OER. Does this mean we do not engage these opportunities? Or do we engage with the premis that through time all content will become OER. Cause I also believe that all content could become OER once its competative advantage has lapsed... -- Peter Rawsthorne 16:50, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Thoughts...??

You're invited to add your proposals for the front-page navigation of the Wikieducator.com site

I wonder if we should force a different skin so that the site looks distinctively different in case a user inadvertently uses .com instead of .org... and wonders where all the data went.

Jim

I agree --- different skin is the way to go ---

Fratman by Jason Pearce seams like a reasonable release candidate which doesn't change things too radically, but as a different look.

Want to give this a try?

I was not able to get Fratman to work. I've forced WikiEducator.com to use Modern. (This is done by an Apache rewrite rule which sets the skin.)

Unfortunately it looks like it still isn't enough to warn newbies that they aren't actually at WikiEducator.ORG.

That's a good idea.
