During this workshop we will explore wikis and the phenomenon of mass collaboration. We will look at how people collaborate in creating knowledge using the read / write internet. We will look at how wikis self organize and how wiki practices have been built to ensure content quality and, surprisingly, conflict resolution techniques. We will discuss how the wiki based edit-revert cycle increases quality and provides metrics for determining content quality. In this workshop we will also explore the practices that create featured articles and educational resources. We will look at the future of wikis where they begin to consider author reputation and how hey will impact publishing.

Wikis, mass collaboration and self organization are amazing sociological phenomenon. Research has now shown that the quality of wikipedia is no different than the traditional encyclopedia, how has a group of volunteers created such value.
